SonicPure Pulsar 4400 Selected for Barcelona Urban Lake Restoration Pilot

SonicPure is pleased to announce that its Pulsar 4400 ultrasonic algae-control technology has been selected for a new innovation project at Can Mercader Park Lake in Cornellà de Llobregat, Barcelona.

The project is part of the Open Innovation Laboratory for the Territory challenge, organized by Aigües de Barcelona and the City Council of Cornellà de Llobregat. The challenge sought innovative solutions to transform urban lakes into healthier, more sustainable aquatic ecosystems. After a competitive selection process involving nearly 30 companies, TASO, one of SonicPure’s European distribution partners, was selected to implement the pilot project.

SonicPure equipment was recently installed at Can Mercader Park Lake, where the Pulsar 4400 will be used as part of an integrated strategy to improve water quality, control algae growth, and support more sustainable management of urban aquatic ecosystems.
“Urban lakes are important public spaces, but they can be difficult to manage when algae and water-quality issues begin to take hold,” said Rob Slingerland, President of SonicPure. “We are proud to see the Pulsar 4400 selected for this Barcelona project and excited to support TASO as they demonstrate how chemical-free ultrasound can play a valuable role in sustainable urban water management.”

SonicPure’s Pulsar 4400 uses targeted ultrasonic frequencies to impact algae and cyanobacteria without adding chemicals to the water. The system operates continuously and is designed to give water managers a low-maintenance, chemical-free tool to improve water quality and reduce reliance on conventional treatment methods.

The Barcelona pilot will also include local technical support and water-quality monitoring to evaluate conditions before, during, and after treatment. This integrated approach will allow the project team to track water-quality indicators, observe biological changes, and assess the effectiveness of the deployment over time.

The selection of TASO for this project reflects growing interest among municipalities, utilities, and public agencies in sustainable solutions for urban water management. It also highlights the expanding role of SonicPure technology in projects focused on healthier, cleaner, and more resilient aquatic ecosystems.
